Is being a successful Employee important or being a successful Woman Employee?
Now all men would think that this blog is for Women and not for him, but please wait, it could be useful to help you know the situation of Woman Employment in India.
I work for a Reputed Organization in Our Country - A Country which symbolizes a Woman -'Bharat Matha'.
I have been a good employee showing good remarks on my yearly Appraisals, but I never knew that my pregnancy would be a danger to my job security.
Last time, when I was pregnant, Doctors adviced for 25 days rest or else I would have to face 'Threatened Abortion' and inspite of having Sick Leave balance, my Senior sanctioned only 9 days leave and what was the result ? Just few days later on my way back from office to home, I had miscarriage.
Now again, I am pregnant and Doctors said that due to my previous miscarriage there are again chances of miscarriage so I have to take 8 weeks rest. However, I submitted my Medical Certificate & requested my Seniors to sanction only 4 weeks Sick Leave (I had 45 days SL Balance), but to my shock, this Pregnant Woman Employee's valid Medical Certificate was rejected & I was personally told "We cannot afford giving you leave even for a week, you have had a previous miscarriage, if this time also you need such rest then I guess you are abnormal & we suggest you to put your resignation to make it a win-win situation and please be sure that we cannot afford giving you Maternity Leave also'. Upon my numerous request I was granted only 7 days sick leave out of my available 45 balance Sick Leaves.
But, since, I honestly needed bed rest to avoid any miscarriage, and keeping the Company's Policy in mind that "an employee can make use of SL when he/she has a valid Medical Certificate", I hand delivered my Medical Certificate to my Seniors and extended my SL for another 3 weeks (excluding the 1 week SL given by my seniors as a Mercy!) -
Please reply me -
1) Is Pregnancy an Abnormality to a Woman Employee?
2) Which Company Policy says that an Employee cannot make use of his/her Sick Leave ?
3) How can a Company reject valid Medical Certificate and ignore the truth of the employees health condition?
3) Which Company denies giving Maternity Leave to an Employee - are we women suppose to sit in our bosses' cabin and deliver babies?
4) Do we Pregnant Employees have no right to be equalled to a normal employee?
5) Are we women of India not suppose to plan pregnancy because of the fear of loosing our job, loosing our financial independency, loose our identity in this Market?
6) Today I fear that if this injustice is happening with me, it may be happenning at many more places of India - Is my fear right?
As of now, I am currently on my SL, I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE "AFTER EFFECTS" OF MY SICK LEAVE THAT I HAVE TAKEN. I am sure I will be blamed with false job remarks/inability to work bla bla to leave the organization....I shall update you on my fight against this injustice faced by me because my Voice Today could be a Help to Someone Tommorrow!
